Harassment Training Has Changed. Most Programs Haven’t Kept Up.

Most harassment training hasn’t kept up with how people actually work today.

In working with enterprise organizations, here are a few trends shaping harassment prevention programs right now:

Harassment has moved online. It is no longer just in person. It shows up in Teams, Zoom, and email through tone, messages, and behavior in virtual meetings.

Broader focus on culture and behavior. Programs are expanding beyond policy to include microaggressions, bias, and everyday workplace interactions.

Bystander intervention is becoming standard. Employees are now expected to recognize issues, step in appropriately, and support reporting.

Engagement is no longer optional. Traditional one size fits all training is not working. We are seeing a shift toward:

  • Scenario based learning
  • Interactive formats
  • Industry specific customization
  • Ongoing reinforcement, not once a year training

Compliance is expanding globally. Regulatory pressure continues to grow, but the bigger shift is this: organizations are treating harassment training as a culture tool, not just a requirement.

The shift is clear:

Harassment training is no longer about completion. It is about whether employees know what to do in real situations. Many programs still have not caught up to that.

Curious how others are seeing this play out internally. Has your organization moved in this direction, or is it still largely a once a year exercise?
