Illinois Human Rights & Sexual Harassment Training
Illinois has one of the nation’s most stringent sexual harassment prevention training laws. Under the Sexual Harassment Act (SB 75), all employees must undergo annual training. The law includes specific requirements for the service industry, mandating that restaurants and bars establish and distribute a written policy on sexual harassment prevention and train employees on reporting procedures and filing charges with state authorities.
In Chicago, a more stringent local ordinance took effect on July 1, 2023. This ordinance requires all employers to provide annual sexual harassment prevention training to all employees (1 hour), supervisors and managers (2 hours), and bystander intervention training to all employees (1 hour). For detailed information on this requirement, please refer to the City of Chicago’s website.
