Neuroscience in Compliance Training? Who Knew!

Okay, I’ll admit it: when I first heard about applying neuroscience to compliance training, I was skeptical. I mean, I get the importance of compliance – it’s crucial for protecting our company and our clients. But neuroscience? That seemed a bit… out there. But the more I learned, the more fascinated I became. It turns out that understanding how our brains work can completely transform how we design and deliver training. Who knew!

Our team at Ethiciti, is tired of the “click-through-and-forget” approach to compliance training, and we’re sure you are too. That’s why we’re actively applying the latest neuroscience research to how we design our training. We’ve discovered some game-changing insights: our brains are wired to learn in certain ways, and by tapping into those natural processes, we can create training that actually sticks.

We rely heavily on established neuroscience principles, including the AGES model – Attention, Generation, Emotion, and Spacing – to guide our training development.

  • Attention: First things first, you have to grab the learner’s attention. Think compelling visuals, intriguing questions, or a clear explanation of why this training matters to them. It’s all about that initial hook.
  • Generation: Next, encourage learners to actively participate. Instead of just passively listening, they need to do something with the information – answer questions, solve problems, apply what they’re learning. Interactive exercises, quizzes, and simulations are all great for this.
  • Emotion: We all know that emotions play a huge role in memory. Connecting the training content to real-life scenarios and highlighting the impact of compliance (or non-compliance) can make a big difference. Storytelling is a powerful tool here, which we’ll talk more about in a future post.
  • Spacing: Finally, don’t cram everything into one long session. Break it down into smaller chunks and revisit the material over time. This helps reinforce learning and move information from short-term to long-term memory.

At Ethiciti, we’re already leveraging neuroscience to create compliance training that’s not just effective, it’s engaging and impactful. This is what sets us apart in the market – we’re not just talking about it, we’re doing it.

Stay tuned for our next post, where we’ll explore the power of storytelling and expert design in compliance training.
